Solar Panel Advice from Tim Cooper

About Us

Tim Cooper

"My extensive experience with solar panels goes back over 25 years, to when I installed my first ones in 1994 on the roof of the Green Building in Temple Bar. I initially operated the system off-grid, until the possibility of small generators being connected to the grid was opened up by an EU directive aimed at encouraging competition in the Irish electricity supply industry. This enabled me to obtain the first electricity generation and supply licences issued by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER), and to obtain a grid connection offer from ESB.

This offer was subject to me meeting the then evolving Irish version of EN50438 standards for grid-connected inverters, which I did with support from SEAI and Fronius Gmbh. In the course of this I represented Ireland in the consultation process relating to the adoption by Europe of the Irish EN50438 settings (on the nomination of SEAI).

I also secured an exclusive agency for Fronius for the only inverters available at that time that complied with the Irish EN50438 standards, and an agency for Solarcentury products and services in Ireland. This enabled me to roll out a wide variety of fully compliant grid-connected Photovoltaic systems throughout Ireland during the following years, and also to participate in a number of major micro-generator projects in the UK.

My projects have won a number of international awards - the Bremen Initiative award in 2001 and the Presidents Award from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland for " outstanding contribution to sustainable development in Irish Industry ". I was also issued with the first ever Green Electricity Supply License issued by CER.

I would love to offer my experience to anyone who hopes to make positive changes in their use of energy. I have committed my entire professional career to finding cleaner, greener ways to utilise the earth's resources. I have worked with engineers, architects, businesses and homeowners and always enjoy the process of streamlining and tailoring the use of solar energy to individual projects. I hope that my experience can bring practical and proven improvements to all those who seek it."
